Badly Primed Grip!
Badly Primed Grip!

I’ve 3D printed diogorsergio’s blaster (located on Thingiverse) and had it sitting in a box for a year waiting to be painted and assembled.

The first part I’m working on is the grip. I’ve sanded and started priming it and I’m looking to replicate Flyscriber‘s from – therpf forum – painting method.

So far, looking at how the primer has started to set after sanding it, it appears I only previously sanded down to about 320 grit, so it isn’t as smooth as I was expecting. Looking online this is expected. There’s also a few drip marks where I’ve applied too much in one layer – must be more patient!

I will leave it for 24 hours to set, will sand down again (400 grit), wash it, then apply some modelling putty to fill in any larger areas that haven’t flattened out, sand (400) prime again, wet sand (600 grit), wash then finish off with 1500 grit sanding.

These are the spray paints I’m intending on using -:

Primer – JENOLITE Primer Filler Spray Paint | GREY

Black Glossy – Sconosciuto Spray Paint 400ml Gloss (Black)

Black Matt – 151 Spray Paint Black Matt

Metallic Gun Metal – JENOLITE Directorust Metallic Gloss Spray Paint | GUN METAL GREY

Silver Metallic – Paint Factory All Purpose Silver Metallic, 400 ml

Things I’ve learnt

  • Sand, sand and sand even more!
  • Patience and keep a consistent distance with the spray paint!
